Is there a greater cycle around financial crashes? Thinking of the south Sea bubble, tulip bubble, great depression and 2008, it seems to occur every 3 generations or so, any thoughts?
Hi Steve, will any individuals at any banks/financial institutions ever be held personally accountable for over reaching deposit to loan ratio/ margin call scenarios that lead to excessive losses? if not will govts EVER just let them fail or make those bankrupt to pay back private depositors?
I see IT shops placing a lot of hope in being able to do considerably more than what it actually can in my experience; it can’t really think well through unique scenarios. I can see AI being a bubble forming since it has huge amounts of money being poured into it than ever was into other hyped technologies. The worst thing is to allow a bubble to continue, but is there a way to safely deflate a bubble before a catastrophic collapse?
Regarding the 2008 crash, do you feel there was anything that could have been done or said to the right person to prevent it, or was it the case that once signs became apparent, it was already too late?
Is there any viable political solution? Only token actions were taken after 2008, nothing has been done after the money printing of the pandemic. It seems to me that collapse is the only outcome because no one will act to take any other off-ramps.
