“Hollywood hates me with a passion.”
Rob Schneider is one of the world’s most recognisable comedic actors. Following his Emmy-nominated six-year tenure on Saturday Night Live, working alongside the likes of Mike Myers, Chris Rock, Chris Farley and Adam Sandler, Rob transitioned into a film career, starring in several of the highest-grossing comedies of the last 30 years, from Big Daddy and The Waterboy to Grown Ups and You Don’t Mess With The Zohan. He has appeared in a major film every year since 1990, has created two sitcoms based on his life, and continues to perform stand-up comedy across America.
So why did we want to talk to him? Why now?
Rob has long been one of the most outspoken actors in Hollywood. From his controversial stance on childhood vaccines to trans issues, and the Olympics “[celebrating] Satan”, Rob has not been a shrinking violet about his views. We wanted to sit with him for an hour and let him elaborate on his thoughts.
What we got was Rob at his uncensored best. To the surprise of likely nobody, he’s thrilled about the election results. We spoke at length about the Trump phenomenon – what it means for America, why we should have expected it, and how the Democrats made it easy.
However, Rob’s perspective doesn’t come from a place of life-long conservatism – it was only in 2013 that Schneider gave up his allegiance to the Democrats. What becomes clear through our conversation is that Rob’s positions haven’t changed – his party did.
