I’m in the US now, London based comedian doing a few gigs. Some observations here that would be interesting to see if the lads also see…
1. In the UK there is this weird air that the US think we are their equals, they honestly could not give a monkeys about what we’re doing.
The UK has an ego, and an ego can be useful - but we need to find a way to justify it.
2. Comedy - censor is off and I’m in LA where the social justice movement is probably at its strongest and still that standups are speaking way more freely than the London circuit.
3. The middle class have a working class attitude - in the UK the working class being unleashed in the Thatcher years gave us this huge boost, because they were resourceful, scrappy and risk takers. America has this ability to keep that spirit when the next generation inevitably become more middle class. We’ve lost that.
Can you elaborate more on future plans? What proportion of guests will be about current events? What other areas of life do you want to explore?
