James Hankins is an American intellectual historian specialising in the Italian Renaissance. He spent 40 years at Harvard, joining in 1985 and becoming a full professor in 1992. He is now moving to the Hamilton School for Classical and Civic Education at the University of Florida. He is a Corresponding Fellow of the British Academy, won its Serena Medal for Italian history in 2024, and founded the I Tatti Renaissance Library.
