Owen Jones is an English journalist, author and activist, born in Sheffield and raised in Stockport. He studied history at Oxford and rose to prominence with his 2011 bestseller Chavs. A columnist for The Guardian, he has also written The Establishment and This Land, and runs a popular YouTube channel and a Substack called BattleLines.

Owen, you made your name with Chavs, a book about the middle class looking down on working-class Britain. In YouGov's big January poll, Reform had 39% of routine and manual workers, 34% of the poorest households and 37% of social renters. The Greens, the party you've backed as the new home of the left, had 12% of manual workers, and their biggest gains came from graduates and the richest households. So hasn't the working class heard your economic pitch and turned it down? And if your politics now mostly appeals to comfortable graduates, how are you different from the people you wrote Chavs about?
