Hi, my eldest plays in grass roots (under 9), I have already noticed a big shift in some parent and coach attitudes, taking it very seriously, being needlessly firm/stern with feedback/sideline reactions etc as if they are all on the edge of becoming premiership stars if they get pushed hard enough.

What advice do you give to navigate this as it seems common and he loves playing football/with the team, so wouldn't want to just move on?

Also what are your FPL picks this season, trying my hand for the first time?

PSR has cemented the main clubs (Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City) and frozen out clubs like Newcastle and Aston Villa. Is there an alternative method of financial regulation and if so what would you choose?

Hi Jonathan, its my theory that penalties are missed rather than saved, if the player puts it in top 2ft sq of each goal corner then surely they would score 95 or more percent, why do lots of players aim elsewhere? Set piece, practise practise

Good question, right? Reminds me of something I have always wondered. On penalties, can the goalkeeper read where the ball is headed before the kick is finished? If so does this create a challenge where the player tries to fake the goalkeeper in a way that makes placement more difficult and scattered??

yes, even if keepers read up on how players were left or right handed/footed - at top level they should be able to put the ball in any 2ft square chosen in the goal at will, i mean im not a footballer but thats the job ? - even if keepers had an inkling of direction its still a gamble!

What would you single out as the main component missing or prevalent in the Chinese game that seems to hold them back considering the size of their potential talent pool. Are politics and corruption playing a role?

You must be proud that the Blizzard is still going. Will a team from Eastern Europe win any European trophy again? Never mind the champions league.

I doubt that a club from eastern Europe will compete as they used to from the mid Sixties onwards for thirty years or so. They can't compete financially with the minor western leagues, nevermind the major ones.

Ironically, given the narrative today, major clubs in the east were closely connected to state institutions in those days.

Can football, or sport in general, be adapted to von Clausewitz's comment about war and politics?

I am a City season ticket holder.

I know nothing about footie but with the rise of academies and sports clubs with fees, are the poor kids who traditionally had a way to respect and wealth through football now shut out and it is now becoming more elitist?

Should government ever get involved in regulating the premier leagues hyper-capitalist model. E.g. regulating ticket prices/player wages?
